About Me
Stephanie Hillman is a professional artist and educator with more than 20 years of experience working in watercolor and ceramics. A lifelong artist, Stephanie’s work is rooted in a love of nature, experimentation, and the endless possibilities of working with clay.
Inspired by the organic shapes, textures, patterns, and imperfections found in the natural world, Stephanie creates functional pottery that brings those elements into everyday life. Her work is often tactile and organic, with an emphasis on natural forms and surfaces. She is continually exploring new ways to create, experimenting with different glazes, techniques, and firing processes to see how each piece can evolve.
Alongside her functional work, Stephanie creates decorative pottery using alternative firing techniques including raku, sagger, and fuming. These processes introduce an element of unpredictability, allowing fire, atmosphere, and chance to become part of the finished piece. She enjoys the balance between intention and the unexpected—starting with an idea and allowing the materials and firing process to take it somewhere new.
In 2016, Stephanie founded Art Haus, a community art studio in Salt Lake City offering pottery, painting, and drawing classes for children and adults. Through Art Haus and her volunteer work with local nonprofits, Stephanie is passionate about making art accessible and creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the benefits of making art.
Her own creative practice remains an important part of that mission. For Stephanie, making art is about staying curious, trying something new, and finding beauty in the process as much as the finished piece.
When she’s not working with clay, teaching, or running Art Haus, Stephanie can usually be found outdoors hiking, backpacking, skiing, or exploring with her husband and their dog. Her love of the outdoors continues to be one of her greatest sources of inspiration.
